Team complements world class technology with deep enterprise go-to-market experience

September 4, 2018 - Redwood City, CA—Interana, developer of the most powerful event data platform, announced its new leadership team led by CEO Greg Smirin. Greg follows in the footsteps of founding CEO, Ann Johnson who remains on the company’s board. Smirin was chosen to lead the company, alongside CTO and co-founder Bobby Johnson, as the company has expanded to support customers with some of largest scale and most demanding operating environments in the Fortune 1000.

“As our customers rely on Interana to find critical business answers from their event data, they can’t go back to only seeing summary reports that most tools provide,” said Ann Johnson. “Greg has brought the experience needed to deploy our unique platform in the highly demanding enterprise market. I’ve enjoyed working with him to bring our new leadership team together and we’re excited to take the company to the next level.”

Companies that are equipped to make effective decisions, based on what each customer does, will outperform their competition. Understanding more about specific user experiences across digital and physical will improve customer journeys, increase content engagement, deliver better products, ultimately growing sales. Interana is providing the only event data platform that fundamentally changes the way all enterprise employees can make business decisions.

“A big change in business today is the proliferation of event data, which measures every customer action,” said Smirin. “The most iconic companies like Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft, use event data to understand what customers do; not just in aggregate or on average, but through each customer’s specific actions. With Interana’s event data platform, employees in every department can understand immediately how and why customers have problems, and what transforms a regular customer to a great customer.”

Greg joins Interana from leadership positions at the Climate Corporation, eHarmony, Proofpoint, and VeriSign, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in the industry. Notably, at Climate, he was part of a team that developed the first AgTech AI platform to help farmers increase their crop output and profitability in the face of increasingly extreme weather. Climate Corporation sold to Monsanto for $930 million.

Prior to joining Interana, CTO & co-founder Bobby Johnson, was Facebook’s Head of Infrastructure Engineering, who was tasked with the responsibility to deploy the team that would ultimately scale the company from millions to billions of users. One of his team’s strategic initiatives was to build the platform that provided employees with the ability to ask questions about specific event data, generated by its users. Internally called Scuba, the platform was adopted by more than 50 percent of Facebook’s employees.

“When we founded Interana, we quickly started to work with large enterprise customers, including Microsoft, with innovative use cases across a variety of verticals,” said Bobby Johnson. “With Greg and our experienced team, we will broaden our customer base and expand our use cases. We are seeing great demand across the Fortune 1000 for a variety of implementations in product development teams, customer success and engineering, and data science.”
